Jessi Flores was born in Nicaragua and lived there until his family fled their country during a revolutionary war in 1979 and moved to Miami. During his junior year of high school Jessi became interested in art when a neighborhood friend began showing him sketches of werewolves, sea creatures and mid -evil cartoons. He soon began trading baseball cards for art lessons. When he got into trouble for “tagging” or doing graffiti a high school art teacher brought him into her class and helped guide him into using his hip-hop influenced art on commercial jobs. Jessi began his professional career designing and painting walls for stores in Miami.
In 1997 Jessi returned to his hometown of Estelí in Nicaragua where he soon met Jonathan Drew from Brooklyn and the owner of a small start-up cigar manufacturing company gave him a job as a translator. One day Jonathan noticed him doodling on a piece of paper and was soon put to work designing t-shirts, cigar boxes and other marketing materials for Drew Estates.
Jessi is now General Marketing manager for Drew Estates and in the world of cigars there are very few people who do not quickly recognize his work.
