Ric Erkes’ beautiful vases and wooden bowls are available now at Coffey & Thompson Art Gallery, Frame & Design located in the Historic South End District in Charlotte. He is a retired Air Force Fighter Pilot, who currently teaches at the John C. Campbell Folk School, teaching students how to turn wood with a lathe. He enjoys working with the native trees of North Carolina by expressively turning them into art sculptures.

Bryan Wilson grew up between New Jersey and Georgia. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Studio Art with a minor in Graphic Design from Morris Brown College. After graduating college, he became an in-house Graphic Designer for Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, GA. After a couple years and getting married, he and his wife relocated to Charlotte, NC where he began teaching art at a public school and obtained his teaching credentials at University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

Rosemary Curtin is an abstract expressionist who paints mainly in pastels and acrylics. Her work is characterized by gestural brush strokes and mark-making and the impression of spontaneity, most famously represented by American painters Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline and Mark Rothko. Curtin’s paintings also include landscapes and emotional pieces, and she is most known for her Mardi Gras and Totem Series available for viewing at www.RosemaryCurtin.com.

He and his wife Connie have been active in the arts for over 40 years. They have two children, Andrew and Anna, the latter following in her father’s footsteps in the arts. Stephen’s love of nature is reflected in his beautiful garden at his home, where some of the flora are subjects of his artwork.

Tim McMahon was born in Waterloo, Iowa in 1954. He was educated at the University of Iowa and The University of Northern Iowa. McMahon has over 30 graduate hours mostly in ceramics, however, has always considered himself a painter. After his wife of 24 years passed away after a prolonged illness, he was hired in 2002 to teach at Hopewell High School in Huntersville, NC. He remarried, to one of his former students, and returned to the studio in earnest.

John Slaney is currently the multi-talented Framing Manager at Coffey & Thompson. A Danbury, Connecticut native, John made his home in the Charlotte area last year, along with his wife and three sons.

When did you start your career in art? How long have you known you wanted to be an artist?

I’ve wanted to be an artist since I was 9 years old, after I saw my late uncle’s cartooning sketch book. I would look through the tome for hours and soon I obtained my own to fill up with doodles and scrawls. Visual art has been an integral part of my life ever since; and my creative pursuits have grown broader over time to include creative writing and music.
